An explosion at an oil pipeline pumping station in southern Iran killed three workers and injured four others on July 6, Iranian state media reported. The explosion occurred at the Einkhosh oil field, about 300 miles southwest of Tehran.
State media did not report on the conditions of the injured workers. Images shared on social media, allegedly taken at the scene, show a body covered by a blanket next to a charred building where workers are said to be resting between shifts at the pumping station.
Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh has ordered an immediate investigation, and the cause of the explosion is still unknown. Zanganeh also called on the state oil company, NIOC, to help the affected workers and their families and find out the reasons behind the explosion.
The three men who died in the incident were reportedly technicians at the pumping station.
